AC Milan striker Antonio Cassano is one step closer to playing again after being given the green light from the Italian Federation of Sporting Doctors.

A panel composed of 10 medical experts convened in Milan on Monday and ruled that the 29-year-old will be able to resume his playing career. Cassano has been out of action since undergoing heart surgery in November after suffering a mini-stroke during the team's flight home from a match in Rome. The Italy international trained with his team-mates on Thursday, and is now just needs clearance from the Istituto di Medicina Sportiva dell'Acqua Acetosa before he is able to feature again. Cassano has scored two goals in nine Serie A appearances for Milan this season
